Cloud computing lets you access information and data directly on the Web. A good example of that is Google Docs. The main advantages are that the information is accessible from everywhere, anytime at low costs. It also makes it easy for everyone to easily collaborate. It will redefine how applications are used in businesses over the next few years.
Five different ways it’s going to change the world.
1. Continuous Innovation
No updates, no hard drive, everybody at the same level of innovation
2. End-users will be set free
Technology available for everyone, let the people use the tools as they see fit
3. Enterprise data will be set free
RSS is an example, SalesForce.com embeds Google Apps integration
4. The enterprise will become more social
No more borders, real-time translation. 67% of the world’s Internet users english is not their primary language.
5. Unlimited Scalability
Get free storage capacity in seconds like GMail. Takes seconds to open an account and get a few Gigabytes for free. YouTube is another good example. Google’s goal is to get a high volume of data for free while scaling drives unit costs toward zero.
The myths of cloud computing.
1. The cloud is less secure…
How secure are YOU today?
- 60% of corporate data resides unprotected on PC desktops and laptops.
- 1 of 10 laptop computers will be stolen within 12 months of purchase.
- 66% of USB drives owners report losing them, over 60% of corporate data are on them.
Google security is for real. 100s of thousands of identical servers. Even losing a full datacenter doesn’t impact their services.
The cloud is less reliable.
Downtime of GMail is low compared to in-business Microsoft Exchange. The downtimes of GMail are usually planified compared to a server in an enterprise which most of the time goes down when it is unplanned.
On reconnecte plus tard pour d’autres conférence!
